O mercado das possibilidades é cruel. Muitos investem a fundo perdido para tentarem chegar a um retorno satisfatório. Porém, nas etapas que antecedem o sucesso, quase todos se desprendem da ideia de os alcançarem. O que seria disto sem os loucos que apostam a sério no negócio? Talvez por isso lhes entregaram o mundo. Às tantas, mudou a casa onde vivemos, os amigos tiveram filhos, a família diminuiu e, se calhar, alguns dos daqueles a quem gostávamos de contar a história, já não a podem ouvir. Ninguém vai contar o tempo desde o primeiro dia em que se sonhou até que a glória chegou, estendeu a mão e, no local de destino, deu os parabéns, por iniciativa própria, ao percurso árduo. Há cinco anos, a distrital do Porto tinha a brilhar nos seus campos (estádios pode soar megalómano para o contexto), Jota Silva, que, por essa altura, representava o Sousense. Na carreira do jogador, seguiu-se o Sp. Espinho, do Campeonato de Portugal, o Leixões e o Casa Pia, ambos da Segunda Liga. Em 2022, chegou ao Vitória SC, de Guimarães, numa escalada tão rápida quanto sustentada pela presença nos vários escalões do futebol português. Afonso Henriques, casa do Vitória SC onde tão habituado está a jogar enquanto morde a língua, numa atitude que sabe perfeitamente de onde veio. “Isso de ferrar a língua, aprendi na distrital”, admitiu em tempos ao podcast oficial do Vitória SC. “Aquilo não é bom futebol, não vamos dizer que é bom futebol. Aquilo é mais na vontade, é quem quer mais, é duelos. Isso foi uma coisa que fui ganhando e que se foi moldando à minha personalidade. Tento passar para dentro de campo isso tudo que aprendi. No ténis, Carlos Alcaraz revalidou o título em Indian Wells frente a Daniil Medvedev depois de um torneio com algumas peripécias. Iga Swiatek venceu no feminino. Da Califórnia para o Arizona, Nuno Borges conquistou novamente o Challenger 175 de Phoenix. Ao nível das seleções nacionais, Portugal teve um fim de semana para esquecer. Before the launch of ChatGPT, a “generative” AI that responds to queries in uncannily humanlike ways, in November 2022 its market capitalisation was about $300bn, similar to that of Home Depot, a home-improvement chain. Continued here Never-Repeating Patterns of Tiles Can Safeguard Quantum Information - WIRED (No paywall) If you want to tile a bathroom floor, square tiles are the simplest option—they fit together without any gaps in a grid pattern that can continue indefinitely. That square grid has a property shared by many other tilings: Shift the whole grid over by a fixed amount, and the resulting pattern is indistinguishable from the original. But to many mathematicians, such “periodic” tilings are boring. If you’ve seen one small patch, you’ve seen it all.In the 1960s, mathematicians began to study “aperiodic” tile sets with far richer behavior. Perhaps the most famous is a pair of diamond-shaped tiles discovered in the 1970s by the polymathic physicist and future Nobel laureate Roger Penrose. Copies of these two tiles can form infinitely many different patterns that go on forever, called Penrose tilings. Yet no matter how you arrange the tiles, you’ll never get a periodic repeating pattern.
